Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital (RBWH) is the largest and busiest hospital in Queensland, treating over one million patients each year from not only Brisbane but from all over the State and Northern New South Wales.
While the hospital provides treatment and care for most medical conditions and health issues, including the largest cancer care service in Queensland, RBWH is particularly recognised as a leader in the fields of premature and seriously ill babies, burns and trauma care, emergency medicine, motor neurone disease, stroke, Parkinson's disease, kidney disease, mental health and infectious diseases...just to name a few.
The hospital also conducts extensive clinical research to find better treatments, methods of prevention and ultimately cures for many health issues. This research is important for the continuous advancement of patient care, ensuring optimal health outcomes, lower mortality rates, and less pressure on the public health system.
Research has been an important part of RBWH since it first opened in 1867. Over the past 140 years, the hospital has seen medical breakthroughs and advancements in patient care directly stemming from research. Read more about RBWH's research achievements.
