RBWH Foundation was established over 25 years ago is the charity arm of Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital.

The Foundation’s key purpose is to raise money for the hospital in order to provide better treatment methods and improve patient outcomes.  Money raised is primarily used to fund world-class clinical research, purchase vital pieces of equipment and to promote disease awareness and prevention.

RBWH is the busiest hospital in Queensland, treating patients not only from Brisbane but from all over the State and Northern New South Wales.  While the hospital provides treatment and care for most medical conditions and health issues, including the largest cancer care service in Queensland, RBWH is particularly recognised as leaders in the fields of premature and seriously ill babies, burns and trauma care, emergency medicine, motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, kidney disease, inflammatory bowel disease, cancers (including bowel, breast, brain, leukaemia, melanoma, ovarian, lung and head and neck cancers), mental health, health care in the aged and infectious diseases…just to name a few.

The hospital also conducts extensive clinical research in most of these areas, and is home to a number of major research centres includes the Perinatal Research Centre, Neurology Research Centre, QLD Centre for Gynaecological Cancer and the Burns, Trauma and Critical Care Research Centre.

The aim of research is to find better treatments, methods of prevention and cures for these conditions.  Research, however, takes time and money.

The doctors, nurses, dedicated researchers and other medical practitioners at RBWH devote their time, knowledge and skills to advance research for a healthier Queensland.  The role of the Foundation, therefore, is to assist them with the funding they need.
